Message of the Minister of State for IT Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan

It gives me immense pleasure to see Pakistan marching towards the inception of next generation mobile phone services as the auction is scheduled to take place during the March 2014. The Ministry of Information Technology & Telecom (MOIT&T) has already issued a policy envisioning salient features of the spectrum auction and the national regulator has been entrusted to ensure spectrum auction in timely, transparent and competitive manner.

The new licenses will be technology neutral and auction will be open for new entrants as well. Auction winners will be encouraged and facilitated for an early launch of services will help in exploring the possibilities of local manufacturing, assembling and development of telecom equipment, terminal devices, applications, and research & innovation in telecom sector of Pakistan.

The current Government of Pakistan is pursuing investment friendly policies. Pakistan is a land of opportunities wherein the telecom services have been recognized as important tools for socio-economic development. It is one of the prime support services needed for rapid growth and modernization of various sectors of the economy. Telecom sector is a source of assistance in turning around the national economy. It is instrumental in generating job opportunities and hence fighting with the menace of unemployment.

The role of Regulator for the completion of forthcoming auction process is critical. The regulator’s compliance with the government policies of transparency, accountability, and fair play has given instrumental boost to the cellular industry. I am confident that this new auction would not only transform the cellular industry but will also allow users to enjoy fastest and uninterrupted mobile broadband services across the board.
