Senate Committee on IT & T hails PTA’s Performance

ISLAMABAD (19-12-2009): Senate Committee on IT & Telecom during its meeting on 18th December (yesterday), reviewed the performance of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on protecting telecom Consumer Rights. Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen briefed the committee on PTA’s procedures of monitoring Quality of Service (QoS) of all Telecom services to ensure that the consumer rights are being protected.

Chairman PTA, informed the committee that Lirne Asia & other International forums that monitor regulators’ performance worldwide have rated PTA as one of the best regulator in the region on regulatory measures.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Idrees Khan Shafi and other members including Senator Salim Saifullah, Senator Zahid Khan, Senator Moula Baksh Chandio, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, Senator Mrs. Farhat Abbassi & Senator Mrs. Fauzla Fakhar-ur-zaman welcomed PTA’s act of issuing Show Cause notices to the five cellular mobile operators on failing to meet the benchmark results of QoS Survey as per license terms and conditions. The Senate Committee considered this initiative as beneficial for the mobile phone subscribers.

It may be noted that PTA have recently concluded QoS Survey of all mobile cellular operators in 14 Cities of Pakistan including AJ & K, Northern Areas and all major highways and has issued Show Cause notices to five mobile operators on poor Service Quality.
