Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication
Authority (PTA) Maj. Gen. (R) Shahzada Alam Malik has said that efforts will be
fuelled for the provision of enhanced telecom services to the people of NWFP in
general and the FATA in particular.
He made this assurance to the members of the
Upper House from FATA who met him here today at PTA Headquarters. Briefing the
Senators Mr. Abdul Raaziq, Engineer Rasheed, Hameedullah Jan Afridi and Hafiz
Abdul Malik Qadri, the Chairman said that PTA is already focusing on the spread
of telecom facilities in un-served and underserved areas. In this regard,
far-off areas of Balochistan and Tribal Regions of NWFP are the utmost
priorities of the regulator. He said that telecom service providers especially
cellular mobile phone operators are being pursued by the PTA to make their
services available in the FATA.
At this occasion, Senators appreciated PTA
endeavors for the spread of telecom services across the country and the growth
shown by telecom sector during the recent years. They highlighted the telecom
services requirements in their respective areas. They also spoke about the
issues being faced by the FATA population in having better fixed and mobile
telecom facilities.
