Islamabad:
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed fixed and mobile phone
operators to improve their services and coverage in Murree and Galiyat area.
A
meeting chaired by the Chairman PTA Major General (Retd) Shahzada Alam Malik
held in PTA Headquarters to review the progress of telecom services in the
Murree. Tehsil Nazim, Murree, representatives of mobile phone operators, PTCL
and Paknet Limited attended the meeting.
Chairman
PTA said that elaborate efforts would be made to provide enhanced telecom
services including mobile and fixed communications to the people of Murree and
Galiyat.
PTCL
was directed to create awareness among the consumers on availability of Wireless
Local Loop (WLL) services, which was good option for hilly terrains. Nazim
Murree raised the issue of non-availability of PTCL network and poor quality of
services in Murree.
PTCL
informed the meeting that it will be putting in special efforts for improvement
of services and quality in Murree. It also informed that fiber optic link from
Islamabad to Murree would be operative by May 15, 2007 with which Murree people
would be able to get improved telecom and data services.
Similarly,
cellular mobile companies informed that they were planning to install more
cellphone towers in the surroundings of Murree and Galiyat which would be
helpful in providing connectivity to tourists visiting the area and the locals.
It would also improve the service quality, they said.
It
was also decided in the meeting that telecom operators will maintain close
liaison with the tehsil administration, Murree for the provision of
telecom services.
